The Ashford Bird Tables are a ‘Lantern style’ table with a cloistered platter. My wife and I have a difference of opinion, I like the Ashford because of its aesthesis and its ability to keep the feed both covered and tidy. She on the other hand has qualms that it obstructs her view of the birds.
We would strongly recommend that for stability you 'plant' your table as pictured. However if you wish to have the table free standing there is an optional stand set available.
A jointed cross base and braces to enable be you to free stand the tables. You will have to cut 650 mm (24") off the bottom of the post ( the section that normally goes in the ground) We would still advise that the free standing table is very securely anchored to guard against the wind.
Forshams recommended brand water based preserver.
