Keeping Chickens

We don't claim to be eggsperts, but after thirty years of keeping hens, designing and building chicken housing we can claim to be getting the hang of it.



Forsham's day out will focus on new keepers who want to keep hens but are confused or get scared off the idea by confusion and apparently conflicting information available in books on the web or via the bloke next door.


  • Our day starts at 11am and goes on until about 3:30pm (ish). The course itself is going to be run from the Great Chart Golf Club about a mile away from Forsham Cottage Arks (See the map at the bottom of the page).
  • We'll talk about poultry house options & designs. Hens & their needs. Hens & your needs.
  • Our guest speaker is Fred Hams. Fred claims seventy years experience based on the grounds that his first poultry memory was when he was six!
  • We'll feed you.
  • There will be housing to play with.
  • Questions answered (even the silly ones).
  • Hens to handle.
  • A free goody trug.
  • £10 Forsham gift voucher valid for any Forsham product.
  • An introduction to our complete beginners kit. Which consists of the hens *, an ark, feeder, drinker, grit box, grit, bag of feed, floor liner, even shaving for nest box!
