Garden designer Geoff Whiten has successfully (6 gold's) been building gardens at Chelsea for more than 30 years. This year for his Client Brett Landscaping and Building Products he wanted to create a retired farm workers garden.
The garden was to be a random mix of vegetables, fruit trees and flowers showing the 'old boy' has a hankering to be self sufficient, a total disregard for the formal but could find time and room for a splash of colour. The ill kept cottage, mucky duck pond, abandoned farm cart and rusting farm detritus portrays a time past when the farm and the labourer were a bit more vibrant.
Geoff, who we have known for many years throughout our times exhibiting at Chelsea, approached Forsham for a few props namely a dovecote, beehive and duck house. With his designer hat on he wanted the housing to blend. There was nothing else for it, we had to dig up our dovecote and wade in the pond to get the man his stressed units from our very own garden.
Geoff's 2007 RHS garden named 'The Relationship Garden' won Geoff and Bretts a well deserved Sliver Medal....
